You, Me and Little I

First published as 'The Invisible Path' by Deep Inder, the novel has now been rewritten by the author with some major changes and a completely new ending. The book tells of the journey of Dante from a life of crime to that of self-realization and then goes on to tell how, inspired by the Mother and supported by his family, he is going to achieve peace in the world. The late Peter Whitbread (Emmy Award, Writing) liked the original book immensely. The book has a special appeal for most readers as, though it is fiction, parts of it are based on the author's own experiences or those of his friends. It has elements of action, thrill, adventure and philosophy skillfully woven together which makes it “an enjoyable read.”

Excerpts:

“Dante, Oh Dante! Come back Dante, p-please, please come back! For God’s sake…come back!” Mrs. Gupta seemed to panic, fearing her son would never return. She could never ever understand him. She wondered why he couldn’t be like the sons of her friends. Why did he have to be so violent? Santji had promised her a son who would bring peace to the world and here was this violent young man who troubled her so much with his frightening behavior. Something had to be wrong somewhere…

They went straight to the room. No one appeared to be worried except Dante but he dared not show his fears. He was not really afraid of the police but was scared he would not be able to fulfill his mission of killing the men who had not only humiliated him but so many others with who he could empathize. And then, there was the promise to his uncle.

“Dante, lemme put it this way. You’re a brave man, very brave. And, you can go places. We can together make a great team, a bright future. Once we have enough money, we can start our own business, an honest business-” Dante cut him short.

“I don’t think I would like to be a businessman with money earned from criminal activities. I know I’ve been part of it but after I saw the photos of the dead men’s families, something’s changed for me…”

“I am like your elder brother, Dante so must warn you that our enemies, like Macchar’s family who will know you are alone, could target you.”

         “I don’t fear death, it’s life that I don’t understand.”
